“Gerald’s Car” é uma história pequena que li dia 20 de Novembro de 2011. Dou-lhe 3 estrelas, dado que gostei mais de “Road Kill”, mas também porque me fez lembrar várias histórias que já ouvi antes, pelo que não me despertou tanto a atenção.
Annie deixa Gerald e o mundo dele parece ruir, até que encontra um Chevrolet que o faz esquecer de tudo. Gerald isola-se e toda a sua vida passa a girar em torno do carro e daquilo que pode fazer com ele. Digamos que o veículo não traz ao de cima o melhor que há em si, mas no final terá que pagar por isso. Recordam-se dos mitos urbanos em que um condutor olha pelo espelho retrovisor e vê algo que não devia lá estar? Bem, o Gerald vai relembrá-los na primeira pessoa.
Gostei particularmente do final, quando Chevrolet regressa à oficina e é cumprimentado pelo dono da oficina.
“Gerald’s Car” is a short story I read on November 20, 2011. I rate it 3 stars, once I enjoyed more “Road Kill”, but also because it reminds me of other stories I heard before and that was why it didn’t caught my attention that much.
Annie leaves Gerald and his world seems to crumble down, until he finds a Chevrolet that makes him forget about everything. Gerald isolates himself and his life begins to revolve around the car and what he can do with it. Let’s just say that the vehicle doesn’t bring up the best in him, but in the end he will have to pay for that. Do you remember the urban myths in which a driver looks into the mirror to check the back seat and sees something that wasn’t supposed to be there? Well, Gerald will recall this myth and live it.
I particularlly liked the finale, when the Chevrolet returns to the garage and is greeted by the owner.
