Opinião| Review: “Bound by Blood: Paradox #3”, Patti Roberts

SINOPSE

No Mundo Antigo - no Novo Mundo - O amor vai prevalecer.

Excerto do Livro 3

BLURB
Megan says: "It has been a long time since I read a series where I felt that each book successfully added to the overall storyline. The Paradox series as a whole does this and does it well."

Love is not counted in years - Love is counted in heartbeats
Love is not bound by distance - Love is bound by blood
In the Ancient World - In the New World - Love will prevail
Some will kill for love — Some will die for love
Some will love until it hurts

Ella Medler: "Paradox is not a story in a place - it is the legend of a whole world."

Excerpt from Book 3
The hands on a clock never falter, not for a second. One day ends, and a new one begins. If there is one thing on this earth that could be counted on, it is that. Time never pauses to mourn the dead. That particular privilege is allotted to the living. It is for the survivor to mourn, bury the dead, and leave the rest to the earth. That is the way of it – the way of death - and the misery it leaves behind.

REVIEW
Well, this is a book that took me a lot to finish... and I didn’t finish it at all.
Starting by the beginning, I started reading "Bound by Blood" at the time I was correcting my own book, so I read just a few pages at a time and with several days between them. When I finished my editing, I tried to concentrate on reading this 3rd volume in the series Paradox, but I couldn’t do it. I was forced to give up and put it aside. And why? Because I’m not a fan of the structure the author chose for this narrative. It talks of so many people and so many tribes that I came to a point where I felt that I had dispersed and I was losing the thread of what would be the main story.
However, I keep the three stars rating of the previous volumes, because I don’t consider the story poorly written; I’m just not fond of the adopted structure.

REVIEW
I finished reading this book on September 7, 2012. Similar to what happened with the first volume of the series, I rate it three stars.
Overall, I found this book much better than the first. Although there are still some parts that I think contribute nothing to the advancement of the narrative, they are not as frequent as in the first volume.
Also there is more action than in the first book, which was good, because I thought the first one was too ‘stopped’.
We were also introduced new characters, some of which I liked. Others I thought they only contributed to the confusion in certain scenes. Anyway, the author managed to juggle them in dialogues - I would lose myself if I had to write a scene with so many people involved.
I intend to continue to follow the series to see how it ends.

Opinião| Review: “Paradox – The Angels Are Here”, Patti Roberts

SINOPSE

BLURB
Trapped in the middle between the old world and the new, a little girl cursed with horrific visions from the past. From an Ancient world to the new world on Earth, this is a tale of myth and legend, mayhem and magic, birth and death. A tale of families torn apart, souls searching for lost loves, and evil is walking out of the shadows. You can run, but you cannot run forever. A world that defies logic and reason. A world that may very well be true: Paradox – The Angels Are Here.

REVIEW
I finished reading this book on September 3rd, 2012. I rate it three stars.
Despite thinking that the author writes well, I was a bit sad about the book as it seems to be written just halfway. It lacks a concrete goal, a direction. The characters are presented to us, however the author is lost in recurrent episodes of their past and does not establish the ultimate goal. We know that there is a struggle between good and evil and that those characters will play any role in it, but there’s no action. I felt that the writing had stopped abruptly and without justification.
What I liked best was the episode of Lisbon, maybe because I am Portuguese, lol! I love reading a book in another language and discover references to episodes taking place in my country, even if about something as fateful as the earthquake, tsunami and fire of 1755.
I will now move forward to the next volume in the series, in the hope that the story will develop effectively.
