In search of an anonymous life, Joana hides in London, trying to ignore the curse that prevents her from living a normal life. Joana reluctantly accepts the friendship of Mark, eventually finding in him her greatest ally in learning about the experiences of a psychic.
The growing capabilities of Joana not only attract the attention of Mark as the Convenant, an illegal organization which aims to gather under their domain every Psychic. It is only when her best friend is endangered, that Joana learns that her curse may be a gift, and that life goes beyond all expectations and fears.
CRÍTICA: Acabei de ler “Percepção – Uma Estranha Realidade” a 6 de Fevereiro de 2012 e atribuo-lhe quatro estrelas. Gostei na estória no geral. Há quem tenha reclamado do romance entre Mark e Joana, mas sou uma romântica incurável, por isso gostei e não me importei que as coisas girassem tanto em torno deles. Gostei igualmente do facto das personagens serem sensitivos e não um elemento do paranormal demasiado comum, como vampiros ou lobisomens.
Quanto ao que menos me agradou, tenho três coisas a apontar. A primeira é que se nota claramente que a autora deve ler bastante em Inglês, pelo que escreve de acordo com essa gramática. Por exemplo, em vez de usar o travessão num diálogo, usa aspas. Sou um pouco tradicionalista no que toca a este aspeto, por isso preferia que tivesse optado antes pelo clássico travessão. Em segundo, notei uma grande repetição de palavras; recorrer a sinónimos não fazia mal. Por fim, encontrei muitas partes que podemos apelidar de “palha”, na medida em que repetiam as coisas que Joana já tinha pensado antes e não traziam nada de novo à narrativa; era uma espiral repetitiva. Espero que estes detalhes sejam rectificados no próximo volume. Já agora, quando sairá?
REVIEW: I read "Percepção – Uma Estranha Realidade" on 6th February 2012 and I rate it four stars. I liked the story overall. Some have complained about the romance between Mark and Joana, but I'm a hopeless romantic, so I liked it and didn’t mind that things spun around them so much. I also liked the fact that the characters are Psychics and not an element of the paranormal too common, like vampires or werewolves.
As for what I liked the least, I have three things to stress out. The first one is that we can see clearly that the author must read a lot of books in English, therefore she writes in accordance with this grammar. For example, instead of using the indent in a dialogue, she uses quotation marks. I'm a bit traditionalist when it comes to this aspect, so I wished she had chosen the classic dash instead. Second, I noticed a large repetition of words - using synonyms wouldn’t harm. Finally, I found many parts that we call "rubish", as it repeated the things that Joana had already thought before and did not bring anything new to the narrative - it was a repetitive spiral. I hope these details will be rectified in the next volume. By the way, when will come out?
