CRÍTICA: Acabei de ler “Death Wish” a 30 de Janeiro de 2012 e dou-lhe quatro estrelas.
Gostei da estória no geral. Abarca um mito abordado, por exemplo, no filme do “Blade”: o vampiro diurno, que caminha sem problemas em plena luz do dia.
Gostei da Manon, apesar de se ter tornado um pouco parva depois de ter sido transformada. Enfim, deduzo que tenha a ver com a sua perda de humanidade. A relação dela com o marido é um pouco estranha, mas o que me confunde mais é a dualidade do comportamento dele: tão depressa é carinhoso, como a seguir é um maníaco possessivo violento. Pergunto-me ainda se gostará assim tanto da Manon ou se apenas estava interessado em tornar-se num vampiro diurno. Creio que vou ter que esperar pelo segundo volume da série, se bem que esperar até Novembro custa!
Não me agradou o facto de haver tantos palavrões. Não me importo de ler um ou outro, nomeadamente numa conversa acesa entre personagens, porém estes são uma constante ao longo do texto. Outra coisa que não me agradou tanto foi os diálogos extremamente longos. Como escrevo por vezes, compreendo a tentação de apostar nas conversas, dado que estamos a visualizar tudo na nossa mente; porém, há que ter em atenção que não se trata de um texto dramático e, por isso, não devemos abusar. Pode ser que o próximo volume tenha isto em atenção. Ah! E quero um pouco mais de ação além das bulhas entre as hienas do Conselho Vampírico.

REVIEW: I finished reading "Death Wish" on 30th January 2012 and I rate it four stars.
I liked the story in general. It embraces a myth addressed, for example, in the movie "Blade": a vampire allowed to walk freelly in broad daylight.
I liked Manon, although she has become a little bitchy after being transformed. Anyway, I assume that has to do with her loss of humanity. Her relationship with her husband is a bit strange, but what confuses me most is the duality of his behavior: if he loves her now, in the very next second he’s a possessive violent maniac. I also wonder whether he loves Manon that much or was he just interested in becoming a Day Walker. I think I'll have to wait for the second volume in the series, although it’s hard to have to wait until November!
I didn’t like the fact that there were so many swear-words. I don’t mind reading one or the other, namely in an angry conversation between characters, however these are a constant throughout the text. Another thing that didn’t please me was the very long dialogues. As I write sometimes, I understand the temptation to focus on conversations, as we visualize everything on our imagination; nevertheless, it must be kept in mind that this is not a script and therefore dialogue shouldn’t be overused. Maybe the next volume will pay more attention to this detail. Oh! I want a little more action than the scuffles of the hyenas from the Vampiric Council.
