Li este livro a 18 de agosto; dou-lhe quatro estrelas.

Mais um que li de uma só vez. Sempre esperei que, no final, Lucinda fosse recompensada e se tornasse um anjo, ou ao contrário, que Daniel se tornasse em humano. Afinal Lucinda estava mais perto da natureza angélica do que suspeitava e a humanidade seria o prémio de ambos, com a possibilidade de se apaixonarem pela primeira e última vez.

Gostei desta reviravolta. Acreditei que Daniel era o anjo que ia fazer a diferença entre o balanço do Céu e do Inferno, mas afinal Lucinda acabou por desempenhar um papel mais importante na história e acabou mesmo por ser a figura central que participou no desencadeamento de tudo no início.

Era giro que Lauren Kate tivesse avançado pelo menos até ao primeiro beijo do casal no final, mas saber que se encontraram e cumpriram o seu destino já foi satisfatório. Foi uma série de que gostei no geral, mas, de todos, o primeiro livro é o meu preferido, talvez pelas semelhanças que encontrei com a minha própria história e escrita.

I read this book on August 18th and I rate it four stars.

Here’s another book I read at once. I’ve always hoped that, at the end, Lucinda would be rewarded and become an angel, or rather that Daniel would became a human. In the end, Lucinda was closer to the angelic nature than she suspected and humanity would be the prize for both of them, with the possibility of falling in love for the first and last time.

I liked this turnaround. I thought Daniel was the angel that would make the difference between the balance of Heaven and Hell, but ultimately Lucinda played a bigger role in the story and then actually became the central figure who participated inthe triggering of everything.

It would have been nice that Lauren Kate had advanced at least to the couple's first kiss in the end, but knowing that they met and fulfilled their destiny was already satisfactory. It was a series that I liked overall, but, of all, the first book is my favorite, maybedue to the similarities I found with my own story and writing.

Li este livro a 17 de agosto; dou-lhe quatro estrelas.

É verdade que o li de uma assentada, mas maçou-me um pouco. Já estava farta das inseguranças de Luce. Era preciso andar de vida em vida para perceber se o que sentia por Daniel era amor? Claro que compreendo que ela precisava de ter a certeza disso e que não se tratava de uma ligação que advinha da maldição que lhes fora lançada, mas não era preciso escrever um livro inteiro dedicado a isso. Creio que este livro e o segundo podiam ter sido combinados num único.

I read this book on August 17th and I rate it four stars.

It is true that I read it all at once, but it bored me a little bit. I got tired of the insecurities of Luce. Was it necessary to go from life to life to realize that what she felt for Daniel was love? Of course I understand that she needed to be sure of it and that it was not just a connection linked to their curse, but it didn’t have to be a whole book dedicated to it. I believe this book and the second one could have been combined into a single one.

Acabei de ler este livro a 16 de agosto; dou-lhe quatro estrelas.

E pronto, fico satisfeita por dizer que, desde a metade do primeiro livro desta série, a história de Lauren Kate afasta-se por completo da minha série “Perdidos”, pelo que não me podem acusar de lhe roubar as ideias, lol!

Quanto a este segundo volume em si, achei que era um bocado mais do mesmo em relação ao primeiro: lá está Luce de volta a um colégio, lá está ela a pensar que se pode apaixonar por outro que não Daniel e a beijá-lo… Dejà-vu… Talvez por isso não gostei tanto deste livro quanto do primeiro.

O que gostei mais foi do facto da Luce de aprender a manejar os Anunciadores, de forma a ver o que contém. Fez-me questionar até que ponto Luce seria humana ou se teria poderes especiais. Veremos no próximo livro, até porque este termina com uma viagem que indica que várias se vão seguir.

I finished reading this book on August 16th and I rate it four stars.

And voilà, I am pleased to say that, since the middle of the first book in this series, the story of Lauren Kate departs completely from my series "Lost Ones", so I can not be accused of stealing her ideas, lol!

On this second volume itself, I thought it was a bit more of the same over the first: there is Luce back to a school, there is she thinking that she can fall in love with someone else other than Daniel and she kisses him... Dejà vu... Maybe that's why I didn’t like this book as much as the first.

What I liked most was the fact that Luce has learned to handle the Announcers, in order to see what they contain. It made me wonder to what point Luce would be human or if she had special powers. We will find it out in the next book, because this ones ends up with a trip that indicates that several will follow.

Acabei de ler este livro a 14 de agosto; dou-lhe cinco estrelas.

O início desta leitura veio corrobar o que muita gente me disse: que ao começarem a ler o meu “Perdidos” pensaram “onde é que eu já li isto?”. De facto, até meio da história encontrei imensas parecenças, tais como: há os dois rapazes jeitosos, um bom e outro mau, que exercem um grande poder atrativo sobre a personagem feminina: tanto eu como a Lauren usamos a expressão “certo?” muitas vezes após uma afirmação; ambas usamos a 3ª pessoa do singular para contar a história; ambas pusemos as personagens a pesquisar as suas origens; tanto eu como ela usamos a dicotomia Céu/ Inferno e fazemos referência aos nove círculos apresentados por Dante… E, até aí, adorei a história, não só porque é o meu género preferido, mas também por causa das parecenças no elenco e no estilo de escrita. Quase podia dizer que ou li este livro noutra vida ou eu e a Lauren Kate somos almas-gémeas no que diz respeito à escrita e pensamos da mesma forma.

A partir do meio do livro, as nossas histórias seguem caminhos distintos.

O que menos gostei foi do final. As coisas precipitaram-se demasiado depressa e senti-me perdida a partir do ponto em que a Luce entra na Biblioteca com o livro escrito por Daniel. Foi tudo muito precipitado; um pouco de calma teria sido bem vinda. De qualquer modo, já comecei a ler o segundo volume. Será que vou encontrar mais semelhanças entre a escrita e a história de Lauren Kate as minhas? Lol! Veremos.

I finished reading this book on August 14^th and I rate it five stars.

The beginning of this reading came to corrobate what many people told me: that when they started reading my "Lost Ones", they thought "where have I read this before?". In fact, until the middle of the story I found lots of similarities, such as: there are two handsome guys, one good and one bad, who have great power over the female character; Lauren and I both use the term "right?" many times after a statement; we both use the 3rd person of the singular to tell the story; we put the characters researching their origins; we both used the dichotomy Heaven / Hell and we refer to the nine circles presented by Dante... and to that point, I loved the story, not only because it's my favorite genre, but also because of the similarities in the cast and the writing style. I could almost say that I read this book in another life or Lauren Kate and I are soul mates in what comes to writing and thinking alike.

From the middle of the book, our stories follow different paths.

What I liked least was the end. Things rushed too quickly and I felt lost from the point where Luce enters the library with the book written by Daniel. It was all very rushed, a little calm would have been welcome. Anyway, I already started reading the second volume of the series. Will I find more similarities between the writing and the story of Lauren Kate and mine? Lol! We'll see.

Este ano ainda não comprei nenhum livrinho, não só porque se está em período de contenção, mas também porque tenho muitos livros por ler e pouco tempo para pegar neles. De qualquer modo, quero comprar estes dois assim que possível: "Infinito", da Alyson Noël, e "Êxtase", da Lauren Kate. E vocês, que livros tencionam comprar em seguida?

Há muito que podia ser dito quanto ao que se tem passado nos últimos dias, desde a leitura à crítica de livros que me são enviados, passando pelas correcções que tenho feito a uma tradução em que tenho estado a trabalhar… Mas enfim, são três as razões que me trazem até aqui hoje.

Ponto 1) Caixa de Correio

No final da semana passada recebi na minha caixa de correio o livro “O Vestido”, de Milene Emídio, que ganhei na sequência de um passatempo promovido por um blogue. Já consta da minha lista de leituras!

Hoje recebei “Blind Hunger”, de Araminta Star Matthews – ela teve a gentileza de me enviar uma cópia do livro dela em papel para que eu leia e lhe dê a minha opinião. Agradeço o gesto e decerto não o esquecerei – é o meu primeiro livro em inglês, lol!

Ah! E ambos vêm autografados!

Ponto 2) IVA a 6%

Li na semana passada em vários meios de comunicação social que o IVA não vai aumentar nos livros, mantendo-se nos 6%. Abençoado Secretário de Estado Cultura por essa decisão! Adoro ler, mas alguns livros custam mais do que o orçamento caseiro pode suportar, por isso se o IVA aumentasse… bem, era um corte que teria que ser feito. Assim posso continuar a adquirir um ou dois por mês, por isso…

Ponto 3) “Tormento”

O livro “Tormento”, que vem na sequência de “Anjo Caído”, de Lauren Kate já está à venda em Portugal. A Planeta anunciou na sua página no Facebook que já está disponível na Bertrand e na FNAC, por isso já sabem qual será a minha próxima compra ;-)

There’s much that could be said about what has happened the last days, from reading to reviewing the books that are sent to me, passing by the corrections I’ve been doing to a translation that I’ve been working on... Anyway, 3 reasons that brought me here today.

Point 1) Mailbox

At the end of last week I received in my mailbox the book "O Vestido", by Milene Emídio. I won it in a competition sponsored by a blog. It’s already included in my reading list!

Today I received "Blind Hunger" by Araminta Star Matthews - she was kind to send me a paperback copy of her book for me to read and give my opinion. I appreciate the gesture and I certainly will not forget it - it's my first book in English, lol!

Oh! Both books are signed by the authors!

Point 2) IVA (VAT?) at 6%
Last week I read in various media that IVA (VAT? I’m not sure what the equivalent in English is) will not increase in the books in Portugal, remaining at 6%. Blessed be Mr. Secretary of State for Culture for this decision! I love reading, but some books cost more than the household budget can support, so if that tax increased... well, it was a cut that would have to be done. This way, I can still buy one or two per month, so...

Point 3) "Torment"

The book "Torment," which follows the "Fallen Angel" by Lauren Kate, is already on sale in Portugal. The publisher Planeta announced on the Facebook page that the book is available in stores like Bertrand and FNAC, so I already know what will be my next purchase ;-)
