Opinião| Review: "The Conduit", Stacey Rourke

Acabei de ler “The Conduit” dia 26 de Dezembro de 2011 e, numa escala de um a cinco, dou-lhe 4 estrelas.
Gostei principalmente das reflexões irónicas da Celeste. A história é narrada na primeira pessoa e a personagem presenteia o leitor com as suas ideias e opiniões, algumas das quais bastante hilariantes.
Foi bom ler um livro que envolve elementos do paranormal diferentes, como o Grifo, a guia espiritual e os poderes que os três irmãos recebem. A história não varia no que diz respeito a alguém ser escolhido para uma missão especial, no entanto a explicação do porquê vai além do que ouvimos com maior frequência; tendo em conta que muito se repete hoje em dia, ler algo um pouco distinto é óptimo.
Quanto ao que podia ser melhorado na minha opinião… achei que faltava um pouco de emoção a meio da história. Por exemplo, a relação de Celeste e Alec foi abordada apenas superficialmente (embora o final deixe implícito que ele vai estar no centro de tudo no próximo volume). O próprio Alec surgiu como uma personagem que apenas aparece quando há uma notícia e acaba por ser arrastado pelos acontecimentos. Um pouco mais de personalidade não lhe fazia mal.
Fico à espera do próximo livro da série para saber o que se passa com Alec e para descobrir o que acontecerá à Celeste, até porque lhe foi dito que, quanto mais poder receber, menos humana será. Como afectará isso a sua vida?

I just finished reading "The Conduit" on December 26, 2011; on a scale of one to five, I give it four stars.
I especially enjoyed the ironic reflections of Celeste. The story is narrated in the first person and the character presents the reader with her ideas and opinions, some of which quite hilarious.
It was good to read a book that involves different elements of the paranormal, such as the Griffin, the spiritual guide and the powers that the three brothers receive. The story doesn’t vary in what comes to someone to be chosen for a special mission; however, the explanation of why it happened goes beyond what we hear most often. Given that much is repeated today, reading something a little different is great.
As for what could be improved in my opinion... I thought it lacked a bit of excitement in the middle. For example, the relationship of Celeste and Alec was only approached superficially (although the end of the story let us guess that he will be at the center of everything in the next volume). Alec himself appeared as a character that only shows up when there are news and he ends up being dragged by events. A little more personality wouldn’t harm him.
I'll be waiting for the next book in the series to know what’s going on with Alec and to find out what will happen to Celeste, because she was told that the more power she received, the less human she would be. How this will affect her life?
